Open Audition was held at Kids' Gallery Central on Sunday, 26 March.

Congratulations to all students who recently auditioned for the Kids’ Gallery Festival Week Star Factor talent search. We were inundated with entries and it was extremely difficult for judges to select the students who now make it through to the Star Factor competition.

More likely to be chosen:

  • Singing (with live or recorded accompaniment)
  • Magic (with several tricks and showmanship)
  • Circus acts (exciting and interesting)
  • Instrument playing (to high level - probably Grade 2 or above)
  • Dancing (modern or ballet)
  • Comedy (funny jokes and actions)

Not likely to be chosen:

  • Reciting poem or prose (Star Factor is NOT like the Speech Festival or Drama exam)
  • Singing nursery rhyme or very simple song without accompaniment
  • Instrument playing for level less than Grade 2

Choose appropriate material for your age.
eg It's a Hard Knock Life from the musical Annie would be good for a 6 year old girl; My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion is probably more appropriate for a teen.
Monologues or dramatic texts - Choose a monologue that is age-appropriate, with a character around your age and you can identify with. The judges will be looking for enthusiasm, voice projection and diction, and of course talent, with a well-executed presentation. Original material is welcome.
Time your audition carefully. Timing starts after your introduction. Please note that you will only have one minute to present your audition.
Warm up before you present your audition piece. We will provide studio space for this.
Introduce yourself, your number and your act clearly. Smile!
Don't sing a cappella (without accompaniment) unless you have a very good voice; provide a backing track (MD or CD; NO cassette tapes). We will not allow the candidate to sing along with the singing artist, so source backing track music.
No violence, obscene or offensive language, or disrespect to others.
Don't apologise for your mistakes. Just perform!

The selected participants will be required to present their acts to the Festival Week production team once in April to make sure that they are on track. Our teachers will give tips to help them improve their performance.

There is no need to be enrolled at Kids' Gallery to participate in Star Factor.

Children selected to participate will be asked to pay a $200 fee per act.
