Kids’ Gallery has curated a Picasso Portfolio for students this summer. This innovative series provides students with a clear look at Picasso’s periods of creative foment. Having more than a passing familiarity with Picasso’s work points to an individual who is worldly, aware, artistic, and appreciative of different kinds of expression.
For a beginning artist, learning Picasso’s history and technique equips them well to start and experiment on their own creative endeavours. This is fundamental to any understanding of modern visual expression.
Participants can enjoy a flexible schedule. These workshops are designed to be taken both as one-off workshops, or as a complete programme. Students who have completed all the workshops within the Picasso Portfolio will receive a certificate of completion.

Looking at yourself can be a challenge when you’re growing up – do you really look like that? Why does our face move and stretch and be still the way that it does? Yet – does our expression really capture what we’re thinking? In this workshop, we’ll equip Picasso’s brush and techniques to reveal who we truly are! By using acrylics on mirrored paper, we’ll both make and be a great artwork!

Picasso’s Blue Period: Strumming in Blue | 2 hours | $780
When Pablo Picasso lost a dear friend in 1901, he turned his sadness into art by diving into the colour blue. His famed Blue Period was the result of time. In this class, we will definitely not drive our students into sadness! Instead, we will guide them through a 2D pop-up art project that merges Picasso’s techniques with modern collage. Students will leave our workshop with their own toy instrument and an appreciation for tones, shades, and the assembly of disparate pieces to craft an artistic whole.

Can a rock throw itself? Such questions prompt the imagination and bring the artist to unexplored and fertile grounds of creativity. In this workshop, our students will learn from the example of Picasso who gave organic shapes and objects a sense of movement and purpose despite their static forms. Students would leave the class with a sense of freedom in experimenting with fresh and dreamy concepts for their art.

Picasso’s Rose Period: Joy in Red | 2 hours | $780
As Picasso exited a deep sadness (The Blue Period), he rediscovered happiness in spectacles of joy – the carnival and its harlequins, actors, and other circus performers! This workshop recaptures that joy by guiding students through a thrilling portrayal of clowns, animals, and performers as interpreted by the maestro Picasso. Collage, tone, and shades are explored to bring vivid life to feelings our students are fully capable of expressing visually.
